Perranporth and St Piran's Cross Photography Walk

Enjoy a photography walk with likeminded people, across Penhale Dunes to St Piran’s Oratory and St Piran’s Cross, 10.30am on the 17 June 2025.

We will be strolling over unpaved terrain, but of mostly low lying grasses with some gentle ups and downs. The walk will be just a little over 2 miles and is in an exposed location with little cover. There is a small risk of adders, especially if it’s a warm day, so do keep aware of the nature around you. Try to stick to open ground where you can see clearly, or on the footpaths.

The area we will be visiting is part of the Penhale Dunes and is a site designated as a SSSI and Special Area of Conservation. So we should be mindful of the usual rules of leaving no trace, as well as being respectful of this designation and avoiding causing any disturbance of wildlife. Sand dunes are listed “most at risk” of biodiversity loss in Europe. It is, however, open access land.

Things to bring:

  • Please bring any medications that you might rely on.
  • Something to drink and a snack (there won’t be a cafe near by).
  • Be prepared for being in an exposed location, whether that’s an extra layer in case it gets chilly, a raincoat or sunhat and sun cream if it gets hot.
  • Sensible, enclosed footwear would be advisable.
  • Your camera and a spare battery (or two).

I intend to run this walk even in incremental weather, but if there is a serious weather front coming in, I will let you know as soon as possible if I need to cancel for safety purposes.
